Moving!

Making some changes around here! Kevin spent some time yesterday setting up my new blog and transfering posts and pictures to my new blog at my domain name. It’s not quite ready yet, but I wanted to warn you that the time is coming to update your RSS feeds.

I’m doing something new with the new domain. I currently have this blog and a book blog, where I track my goal to read 101 books in 1,001 days, and I am going to start another blog as well, for fashion & design. Some of you are probably rolling your eyes that I’m taking on another project, but those who know me really well will realize this has been a long time coming. I have always been interested in fashion, and have been clipping stuff from magazines and making collages since I was a tween. So, it’s time to move into the 21st century and go digital! So, these 3 blogs will all be linked to my domain name that I purchased last year (sometimes it takes me awhile) and are currently linked to Kevin’s domain since he’s hosting everything together. Which is why I can’t give you the address yet.

Stay tuned for updates. I’m so excited about this!

desk inspiration

purple area

I found a lovely new blog recently, Purple Area, and the big “K” on the shelf to the right of the desk caught my eye. I would like to put one of these on my own desk, but I’m not sure where to look. Does anyone know where I can find one?

More peace

Another peace update.*

peace shirt

I purchased this shirt down in Key Largo, for many reasons, but the large peace sign caught my eye from across the store. Then I read the saying and loved it, so now it’s mine. Here are some of the sayings from the shirt (that we should all remember on a regular basis):

  • Be the change you want in the world
  • The real and lasting victories are those of peace and not war
  • When the power of love is greater than the love of power there will be peace
  • An eye for an eye just leaves the whole world blind
  • Live and let live
  • Peace is for all colors
  • Do our hearts not all beat the same…do we not bleed the same…do our souls not laugh and love and cry and dream the same? Peace is the way
  • Peace is not weakness. It is having the strength and widsom and vision to find real alternatives to violence
  • Peace is the ultimate creation of mankind
  • When we create a world that is full of love, understanding and tolerance for all people and living creatures then we will have fulfilled the sacred potential that lies within us and connects us all
  • A much greater moral strength is required to travel the path of peace and forgiveness than the path of violence
  • Believe in peace. Just imagine a world of tolerance and understanding. Where the money and resources now used to create war are used to create a world of peace & prosperity

And another peace quote I stumbled upon, a few days after I bought the shirt:

“Peace comes from being able to contribute the best that we have, and all that we are, toward creating a world that supports everyone. But it is also securing the space for others to contribute the best that they have and all that they are.” – Hafsat Abiola

*I committed to using one little word – peace – as I move through 2009. This is a project inspired by Ali Edwards.

On staying true to yourself…

My Uncle Gary wrote one line in my high school graduation card – “Always stay true to yourself.” I think this is the best and one of the hardest things to do in life. This advice will always remain with me, and his handwriting is even embedded in my mind.

Another person in my life also once said to me that the Journey song “Be Good to Yourself” reminded him of me. I think that was his way of also saying that I should always stay true to myself. I guess I was doing a good job of that when he told me, but I sometimes struggle with this. (Doesn’t everyone?) It just seems that sometimes the feelings of others get in the way, or it’s necessary to play politics, or any other circumstance that doesn’t allow for me to just say/think/do what I feel is right.

“Your time is limited, don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living the result of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own voice. Most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, they somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”  – Steve Jobs

Mrs. Obama’s style

Is it just me, or are there a bunch of books and magazines talking about Mrs. O’s style?! I love her style and I love her, so I’m definitely okay with it. I’m thinking of ordering one of these books.

There are also heaps of other books about her, and I just found this blog – Mrs. O, which follows her style. Could there be anything better?
