Public Service Announcement

Many of you know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but some of you may not know that it is also Rett Syndrome Awareness Month.

Rett Syndrome is a developmental disorder often misdiagnosed as autism or cerebral palsy and it almost always affects girls. A little girl I used to nanny for has CDKL5, a genetic mutation and Rett Syndrome variant. She was one of the first in the world diagnosed and documented with this mutation in 2006, and there have since been dozens of new cases. Rett affects the entire family of those diagnosed, and it is essential that people are made aware of this disorder and raise money for research.

Please visit this website to learn more about Rett Syndrome, and read more about little Jade and her family on her blog.

  1. Thankyou for high lighting CDKL5.
Please have a look at this website http://www.cdkl5.com
and pass a link on to as many people as you can. As awareness grows so does the number of children finally being diagnosed.
Some families have had to wait many years to find out why their beautiful child has such a huge burden to bear.

  2. I was reading through your blog here and noticed your reference to Rett and CDKL5. Thanks so much for plugging them for us! You absolutely, positively know how much that means to me 🙂
